A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer
Night's Dream features young
lovers who fall comically in and out of love in a ridiculously brief period of
time (a single, “enchanted” midsummer night)! Written in the late 16th
century, it remains one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage. A modern interpretation of the original, the BHS
production will maintain all written word but will leap centuries to the present
day, reflected in updated music, costumes and actions.
The student cast of A
Midsummer Night’s Dream includes TJ Horgan as Puck, Marissa Cote as Titania (Queen of the Fairies),
Anthony Cruz as Oberon (King of the Fairies), Mike Garcia as Theseus, Rachel
Seeley as Hermia, Joram Coichy as Lysander, Katrina Gilstrap as Helena, Chris
Cote as Demetrius and Tommy Bezreh as Bottom, the Senior.
Also
included in the cast are Nicollette Moodie as Hippolyta, Theseus's fiancée,
Holly Brouillette as Marigold, the Fairy Leader, Sarah Burnham as Quince, Timmy
Sullivan as Flute, Kara Amuzzini as Starveling, Xavier Little as Snout, Dora
Kadish as Snug, Sherif Mehdi as Egeus, August Kaminski as Philostrate, Samantha
Hovasse as Mustardseed, Miranda Russo as Cobweb, Emma Saltsman as Moth, and
Sarah Iler as Peaseblossom. Ensemble members include Patrick Hoarty, Sarah
Jamal-Eddine, Marisa Lee, Lauren Schissler, and Sharleen Varghese.
The
artistic team includes Anne Ford as director, John Middleton-Cox as producer,
Peter Waldren as set designer, and Maureen Krebs (The Costume Room) as costume designer.
Tickets
for A Midsummer Night’s Dream are now
available by visiting www.BurlingtonTheatre.com or by phone at
1-781-A-FUN-TIC. Tickets are priced at $5 for students and senior citizens and
$10 for adults. All performances will be held in the Fogelberg Performing Arts
Center, 123 Cambridge Street, Burlington, Massachusetts, a handicapped
accessible facility.

Be sure to mark your calendars for this Sunday, October 28th at 1:00 pm, to watch the BHS Marching Band participate in the Woburn Halloween Parade! This annual tradition is a fun afternoon for families to gather along the parade route and cheer on their band, color guard, or dance squad member! The afternoon is sure to provide plenty of ghosts and goblins, band performances, and maybe even some candy, if you're lucky to catch some from the many floats and clowns walking the parade route. This is good practice for our BHS Marching Band members to be marching down Main Street. The next Main Street they will march down will be in Disney World in April 2012! Come cheer on the band, wearing their various costumes and proudly representing Burlington High School!
The parade begins at the intersections of route 38 and 128, by the Woburn Cinema/Holiday Inn Select, exit 35 off 128. The parade heads south on Route 38, Main Street Woburn, traveling for 2.2 miles to the Woburn/Winchester Line, ending at Horn Pond. Start time is 1:00 pm! Hope to see you there!

Woburn TONIGHT and Eleanor Rigby
Under a threatening sky of rain, the Burlington High School Red Devils football team will be at it again tonight facing the Woburn football team in Woburn. Game time is 7:00 pm, and don't forget to bring your rain gear, just in case!
Speaking of football games, did you hear about last week's game and the Burlington High School Marching Band's decision to team up with the opposing team's band and play "Eleanor Rigby" as a combined group? The story has received a lot of buzz this week, on the "Burlington Patch", various blogs, and Facebook. The story goes that during the halftime show at Burlington's Varsity field, both bands played the same arrangement of "Eleanor Rigby". After Belmont lost, the Burlington band went over to the visitor side, and the drum majors decided to have their bands play the same song together. What transpired next was a great demonstration of passion for music, erasing all lines of "your school" versus "my school". Congratulations to all of the members of the Burlington High School Marching Band for showing Belmont a warm welcome! You are to be commended!
Check out the video, thanks to Shirley Fong for allowing us to re-post here. If you want to see what else the Burlington High School Band has up their sleeves, watch the halftime show at tonight's Woburn game! Hope to see you there!

Those of you who are new to the high school will be excited to see that BHS offers an
outstanding music program of concerts, musicals, banquets, parades, and other
performances throughout the year. The BHS Music Boosters is committed to
providing support, financial and otherwise, to the BHS music students, and to this

Participation in the Boosters is a great way to meet other parents and to be included
behind the scenes in events that your child cares about! Whether you have one hour or
an entire afternoon, once or ten times during the year, there are many different, fun ways
for you to participate. Parents carry water at parades, help with instruments and equipment
at football games, bake, sew costumes, build or paint sets for the stage performances, stuff
envelopes, help with publicity, sell candy and balloons, and much more.
We desperately need participation in our general meetings to make and vote on decisions
that affect your student – decisions that range from candy sales to scholarship amounts.
There are five general meetings a year every other month (dates/times will be posted soon).
The first general meeting (which includes an info session with the Disney Travel
Agent) will be Wednesday, September 26th at 7:30 (until about 9:00) PM in the
band practice room. We encourage you to join us for this first meeting. An overview
of the year will be presented explaining upcoming events.

"Kiss Me, Kate" Notable News
Burlington High School will hold the final three performances of Kiss Me, Kate this weekend in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center.
The Friday night performance will honor members of the Burlington High School Red Devil Hockey Team who will be in the audience with their family members. The young men, newly crowned MIAA Division I State Champs, exemplify how hard work, practice and perseverance can help reach the ultimate goal. These skills and qualities are also indicative of the cast and crew of Kiss Me, Kate who have worked for weeks in rehearsal for this successful production.
Also present at Friday night’s performance will be members of the BHS Italian Club who will be accompanied by visiting students from the Instituto Tecnico Pilati from Cles, Italy. The Italian students have spent the past week with BHS families as part of their annual exchange.
Saturday night’s performance will be extra special for the cast and crew as it will be attended by Kevin B. McGlynn, a member of the first national tour of Kiss Me, Kate. McGlynn played the role of The General in the production which starred Rachel York and Rex Smith. A native of Massachusetts and a Boston Conservatory classmate of guidance counselor Stephanie Diozzi, he has performed across the country in productions including Guys and Dolls, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Annie, All Shook Up (first national tour) and various productions of Forbidden Broadway.
Following the Saturday night performance, the cast and crew of Kiss Me, Kate will have an informal Q&A with McGlynn at which time they will be able to ask him about the show and his life as an actor.
Tickets for all three performances this weekend are still available. For tickets please visit www.BurlingtonTickets.org or phone 781-A-FUN-TIC. They may also be available at the door.

25K tix/10 years: BHS spring musical tips the scales with Kiss Me, Kate
Burlington High School has been lauded for its technological advances in education and is now on the forefront of another imminent milestone.
As the curtain opens at the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 23, the school will not only perform Cole Porter's Tony award-winning musical production, Kiss Me, Kate, but it will close in on the 25,000th ticket sold over the past ten years.
Artistic director and producer John Middleton-Cox has been involved with these productions for all ten years. Some may say he is an innovator in the world of high school productions, nurturing some fantastic talent and producing shows that are provocative, endearing and just plain entertaining.
Among the shows have been Jekyll &Hyde, Mame, Anything Goes, Les Miserables, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Wizard of Oz, Titanic and Beauty and the Beast.
Selling 25,000 tickets over a ten year span is no small task. In 2002 approximately 900 general seating tickets were sold for Fiddler on the Roof mostly through print media. As the years progressed the numbers grew at an impressive rate which can be attributed to electronic means such as social networking sites, e-bulletins and event bulletin boards.
Rather than a three-show run over one weekend, the spring production now spans over two-weekends with a total of five performances. Last year's ticket sales reached a single production record of 4,027 when BHS performed Beauty and the Beast.
Burlington High School's spring musical has become the event of the year for the community, bringing young and old out to see great musical theatre in their own backyard.
Kiss Me, Kate will be performed in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center of the high school on March 23, 24, 30 and 31 at 7:30 pm, and April 1 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens. To purchase tickets visit www.BurlingtonTickets.org or phone 781-238-6842.
Fogelberg Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
