Got Music?  We Do!  Upcoming BHS Band and Chorus Concerts!

 
 


This week, the BHS Band and Chorus will present their annual Ides of Marc" concert, Thursday evening, February 28th, 2013, in the cafeteria of the high school (located at the back of the building). Come in from the cold and snow and enjoy some lovely musical selections presented to you by the BHS Chorus and Select Singers under the direction of John Middleton-Cox. In addition, for your musical entertainment, the BHS Concert and Jazz Bands will once again light up the room with their powerful and moving renditions of some classic favorites. Refreshments will be provided and the concert is free of charge, beginning at 7:30 pm. The BHS Cafeteria is handicapped accessible.

Also coming to the BHS musical calendar is the fourth annual All-Town Band Concert, which will be held in the BHS gymnasium on Thursday, March 7th beginning at 7:00 pm. A favorite of many, the concert will feature all grades from the Burlington band program, including elementary, middle, and high school music students. Concert goers will be treated to a special view into the growth and progression of musical prowess throughout the grades, providng motivation to the younger students to stick with their instrumental studies in anticipation of the musical excellence that can be expected in the highter grades. Besides, who wouldn't want to go to Disney World, like the BHS Marching Band will be doing this April vacation! The concert is free of charge.

Burlington High School is excited to announce that "you can't stop the beat" when it presents its hilarious and uplifting production of Hairspray, the Broadway Musical on March 15, 16, 22, 23 at 7:30 pm and on March 24 at 2:00 pm. Performances of the Tony award-winning musical will take place in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center of Burlington High School.

Picture this: It's 1962 in Baltimore and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire - to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heart throb Link Lark, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!

A family-friendly production, Hairspray promises to have you be-boppin' with a roster of uplifiting songs by Mark Chaiman and Scott Wittman that include "Good Morning Baltimore," "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now," "Welcome to the '60s," and "You Can't Stop the Beat."

Leading the talent-packed cast of Hairspray is senior Marissa Cote as the ever-optimistic Tracy Turnblad. She is joined by Eddie Gelberg as Corny Collins, Steven Gelberg as Link Larkin, Mikayla Merrill as Velma Von Tussle, Ashley Shafman as Amber Von Tussle, Emily Martin as Penny Pingleton, Gina Ganley as Prudy Pendleton and Joram Coichy as Seaweed J. Stubbs. Also featured are Nicollette Moodie as Motormouth Maybelle, Michael Garcia as Edna Turnblad, Harry Lane as Wilbur Turnblad and Caroline Kashgegian as Little Inez and Nicholas Silva as Harriman Spritzer.

Upcoming Burlington High School Marching Band Trip to Disney World

The band will be travelling to Disney World to march down Main Street in Magic Kingdom during April school vacation week, April 15 - 19, 2013.  Here is a draft itinerary for your planning purposes:

SAVE THE DATE: Mandatory Parent/Bandie Disney Meeting with Bill Lacey of World Class Vacations .... Tuesday, April 2 at 7:00 pm ... BHS Auditorium.

Parents (at least one) and Bandies must attend to go over final details, expectations and questions for the April 15th departure for Walt Disney World.

BHS Holiday Concert

 


Once again, the Burlington High School Music Department will be presenting their annual BHS Holiday Concert on Wednesday evening, December 19, 2012.  The performance will be held at the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center, and the festivities begin at 7:30 pm.  The concert will showcase the talents of our high school students from the BHS Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Matt Lovell, and the BHS Chorus and Select Singers, under the direction of Mr. John Middleton-Cox.  This concert is one of three events demonstrating the many musical skills of the BHS music department, with other performances scheduled in Feb 2013 and May 2013.  Be sure to join us for some wonderful instrumental and singing performances with songs chosen for the season.   Admission is free and everyone is welcome to enjoy this holiday gift of music. Fogelberg Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.

A Midsummer Night's Dream


The Burlington High School Drama Club is pleased to announce that it will perform William Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Friday, December 14 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 and 7:30 pm, in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center of Burlington High School.

A Midsummer Night's Dream features young lovers who fall comically in and out of love in a ridiculously brief period of time (a single, “enchanted” midsummer night)! Written in the late 16th century, it remains one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage.  A modern interpretation of the original, the BHS production will maintain all written word but will leap centuries to the present day, reflected in updated music, costumes and actions.

The student cast of A Midsummer Night’s Dream includes TJ Horgan as Puck, Marissa Cote as Titania (Queen of the Fairies), Anthony Cruz as Oberon (King of the Fairies), Mike Garcia as Theseus, Rachel Seeley as Hermia, Joram Coichy as Lysander, Katrina Gilstrap as Helena, Chris Cote as Demetrius and Tommy Bezreh as Bottom, the Senior.

Also included in the cast are Nicollette Moodie as Hippolyta, Theseus's fiancée, Holly Brouillette as Marigold, the Fairy Leader, Sarah Burnham as Quince, Timmy Sullivan as Flute, Kara Amuzzini as Starveling, Xavier Little as Snout, Dora Kadish as Snug, Sherif Mehdi as Egeus, August Kaminski as Philostrate, Samantha Hovasse as Mustardseed, Miranda Russo as Cobweb, Emma Saltsman as Moth, and Sarah Iler as Peaseblossom. Ensemble members include Patrick Hoarty, Sarah Jamal-Eddine, Marisa Lee, Lauren Schissler, and Sharleen Varghese.

The artistic team includes Anne Ford as director, John Middleton-Cox as producer, Peter Waldren as set designer, and Maureen Krebs (The Costume Room) as costume designer.

Lineup for Gala Benefit Concert

 
This Saturday night, the Burlington High School Music Boosters will host their annual Gala Benefit Concert and Silent Auction in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center of the high school. All proceeds for the concer till go directly to the BHS Marching Band's trip to Disney World, April 2013.  The event will take place this Saturday, November 3, at 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 6:30 pm for bidding on our exciting silent auction items.

The performers are busily preparing for what promises to be an exceptional night of Disney music and memories. The night will include several performances by our own BHS Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Matt Lovell. A special percussion quartet will impress the audience with their skills, and will be performed by Stuart Tomkins, Josh Rosenberg, Devin LaRocque, and Praveen Menon.  The Four Saxes will take the stage with their saxophone talents, including Bryan Miranda, Eddie Gelberg, Kyle Pereira, and Shivesh Shah. 
 

Other group performances will include the BHS Color Guard and the BHS Dance Squad, advised by Lauren Cameron and Kaitlyn Falzone, respectively.  A duet dance number will be performed by Kerry Alexander and Kristen Healey.  Another duet, to be performed by John Kelley and Nicollete Moodie, will feature spectacular vocal arrangements with piano accompainment by John Middleton-Cox and Eric Leva.  A trio of band members, Joe Sateriale, Xavier Little, and Gilad Oved will display their musical talents.
 
 
 
Solo performances will provide lots of singing and musical entertainment and will include performances by:  Sarah Burnham, Clayton Davison, Emily Bertolami, Alex Heisler, Emily Martin, and Eddie Gelberg.  We are fortunate to have special adult guests on our stage.  The talented Mr. Larry Gelberg will show us all where his talented sons get their musical skills!  Our assistant band director and BHS alumni, Eric Leva, will provide a musical model to which all of the marching band students can aspire.  And our own Burlington Music Director, Mr. John Middleton-Cox, will grace the stage and perform a Disney musical selection that crosses generations!
